I MACCHIAIOLI. ORIGINE E AFFERMAZIONE DELLA MACCHIA (Tuscan impressionist painters - Origin and success of Macchia painting 1856 -1870)

16th May 2000 – 24th September 2000 This exhibition highlighted the genesis and initial success of macchia painting, through a display of about one hundred works (landscapes, seascapes, portraits, interior scenes) from the 1860s, the decade in which the Macchiaioli artistic movement was at its peak refusing neoclassical art and the birth of history painting. Moreover, by showing the sites of macchia painting in virtual reality it was possible to compare parts of Italy that no longer exist through a reconstruction of several environments as they appeared to the artists at the time and allow the visitor to stand at the angle from which the scene was painted.
